As I mentioned in the last post in the series, How to Use the Free Tools Available to Brand Yourself as a Trusted Expert, the following step in using blogs to become a Trusted Expert is to start your own blog.

So, how does one decide what to blog about? Well, you might blog about anything actually, but since this series is about the best way to make your online business more successful, I’d recommend that you do it about your business and your products ( niche ). Duh.

Precisely what about your business may be tougher to decide.

do some research ( you should really know from your reading / commenting phase ) and see what’s out there in your niche. Is there an opening that you might fill? Is there some information about your class that you think is necessary to get out there, and that will resonate with your Buyer Personas? Then thatis what your blog should be about.

Now here’s the list you’re going to want to know before you start your blog :

* Your Domain ( URL ). Is it going be an extension of your current main website, or will it have a novel name with branding and just point back to your site? Or is your blog going to be the main site? If so , you also have to decide what persona and feel you need your blog to have, that may influence the domain, tagline, and name you select. If youare already adding your blog to your current site, then you are somewhat limited as to choice, as it should relate back to the first site in some way. But if your blog is the whole site, then the sky and your imaginativeness in the limit.
* The tagline remember that both the name and the tagline become searchable, so you need to pick them meticulously to make certain that you’re indexing under the right keywords for your business.
* The name ( seems easy, but you’ll probably spend a little more time coming up with this than all of the rest ).

The reason why I’m informing you to take some time to come up with these 3 things is this : while you can change them later, as the search engines will reindex a site and youwill maintain your rankings, but youwill lose something more intangible – the branding and peronsa that you had built with that name or URL.

So, while you can go back and change it afterwards, putting a little thought and effort into it before you start will save you a headache and a bunch of rebranding after.

Here are the other stuff you’ll need to know when starting your own blog :

Your design. There are a lot of software selections out there with customizable interfaces. If you have already got an appear and feel that you like for your website, you can tweak it and use it for your blog. Or, if you would like something a touch more stand-alone, you can just use the same colours ( to connect it to your most important site ) but has a totally different feel and look. You can always go back and modify it later, so don’t stress out about this one as much. Design is much more of a learning experience, and and you will be testing elements to know exactly what your buyers want ( and do not worry, we’ll get to that part later, too ).

Your voice. Blogs, more than any other kind of writing on the net, need to have a personality. The most successful blogs have their own unique voice that is so strong that you can just about imagine the person speaking when youare reading it. And although Ihave done posts on good grammar before, you want to walk a fine line yes, use good grammar and spelling whenever it’s possible, but you can also take liberties if it suits your voice. I have used non-good grammar thingies ( see ) where it’s appropriate. But if you keep to good grammar in each other way, it’ll be apparent that you are doing otherwise for color and humor instead of that you donot know any better.

Above all, keep in mind that your blog is meant to be about you and your business. Don’t try to be something that you are not a large part about being a Trusted Expert is the fact that you are authentic.

final point on this topic… Just start a blog. I’m significant here and I highly advocate everybody have a blog that is on a topic they are keen about and particularly if they need to be seen as a professional in that niche.

You may not realize it, but the things which will make you a trustworthy Expert will also help you with your SEO

That may improve your natural ranking with Google

that may help people looking for your service find you in the top of the search rankings

Which makes them think about you as a Trusted Expert!

See how that works?

If you want to be a trusted Expert ( and of course you do ) you need to be all over SEO. Thats because people inherently trust natural search results more than pay-per-click ads when they do a search.

Why?

It doesn’t matter what the logical truth is, its the visceral emotional reaction ( I’m such a genius for knowing that huge word ) that counts, and gets folks to take action. So, if you need to be considered a trusted Expert in a certain niche, then you want to rank well in your target keywords.

you can expect this post to be full of SEO tricks, but what you dont realize is that youhave already been doing a lot already to improve your SEO, if youhave been doing all the things that Ive recommended to become a Trusted Expert ( and you have been doing those things, havent you cause here is the previous post in the series if you missed it Press Releases the More Technical Stuff

- Your blog. Google and the other search engines loves them some blogs. Each time you post, you improve your credibility and your standing with Google. Blogs are also a great way to target new keywords a good blog post with the correct keyword density ( 2-5% ) can bring you in a large amount of new folks if focused in the right way.

- your internet press room. Again, Google loves anything that provides fresh content, and youre going to be posting each single promotional release you send out ( and again, you are sending promotional releases out now, right? ) This is particularly important as the online press release services only keep your publicity releases indexed for a little while. Anyone searching on the terms you utilized in those press releases after that time will be directed to your internet press room / latest stories area. And if you dont have an area for your promotional releases, then theyll end upat someone elses websites.

outside your Trusted Expert content, there are a tons of basic technical things you have to be doing to boost your SEO.

Have a Google friendly site map and submit it to the google webmaster tools.

Add your primary keyword phrase to your title, description & keyword tags (only one time in each)

Use a robots.txt file.

Use your alt tags and add your primary keyword to one of them (most important is to describe the image but when possible add a keyword to one of them)

Check for broken links and images (Google hates errors)

Have your main keyword in an h1 tag (only once)

Link to related high authority resources (Google likes seeing you offering visitors relevant info and linking to high authority sites)

Make sure no two titles and descriptions on your site are the same (Google often deems this as duplicate content, even though the pages might be completely different)

Internally link to your main pages with the keyword anchor text you want to rank for (internal linking is very important and often overlooked)

There are a lot of other tips to improve your SEO, but this is the best place to start. Like a lot of things about being a reliable Expert, it all returns to the content. Correctly targeted content not only brands you as a Trusted Expert, but it also improves your SEO and makes it simpler for people to find you, which helps them to see you as a reliable Expert.

Funny how reciprocal that is well I think so anyhow sort of.

learn more about becoming a trusted expert and how you can Make Money Online.

You may not realize it, but the things that may make you a trustworthy Expert will also help you with your SEO

Which will improve your natural ranking with Google

which will help people searching for your product or service find you in the head of the search rankings

Which makes them think about you as a Trusted Expert!

For testing purposes and the examples we give, were going to be using Googles site Analyzer which is a part of Google Analytics. Why? Well, for one, because its free and thus accessible to everybody ; and secondly, because its a darn good testing platform free or not.

Googles Website Optimizer is free, forceful, convenient. What else could you want? It allows you to perform A / B and multivariate testing.

Why is it free?

Because Google knows that if you enhance your conversion rates, youre more likely to invest in more advertising campaigns, users are happy because theyre happier with the sites that they find through searches. Essentially, most are happy and Google makes more cash.

Seems sensible when you put it that way, doesnt it?

There are more, paid services that you can use to further your testing, measuring, and optimizing practices. But this series is all about making the most out of what you can get for little or no money spent, by focussing on the buyer and conducting your communications strategy in a very different way. For that reason, in regards to practical applications for testing thatwill be covered in this part of the series, well be focussing on how best to use the free Google tools.

The important thing to consider about the Google Website Optimizer is that it is a tool. It only provides the metrics, it cant tell you what changes to make. You’ve got to infer that for yourself. If you’d like the tests you run to be suggestive and give you the feedback you want to boost your site, then you want to be certain youre going about it the right way, and making the best of the free tools that Google gives you.

Later in the series, well be going through exactly what you should be doing to get you moving with testing. Where you take it from thereis up to you.

Before we delve into the nuts and bolts of essentially running a test, there are some things you want to recollect for any test you run, whether its 1 or 1001 :

- Always start the test with a goal in mind. Know what you would expect the result to be ( though you may be wrong extremely wrong ; thats what youre testing. ) In scientific tests, this is named the conjecture. Your goal is the basis and the reason for the entire test.

- Work out what you metric of success will be before you start the test. How much better is sufficiently good to be considered a success? 5%? 10% 50%? Only you can decide that.

- Remember not to muddy the waters. If youre testing the color of the checkout button, dont also change the shape or the font or where it would appear on the site. You could get a fantastic result, but you wont know what variable was in charge of the change. Be especially conscious of this when testing copy ; any other changes you make, even inadvertently, to the layout or the font or any other aspect of the display will totally cancel the legality of the test on the content.

- Remember that you always need a control. Even if youre dong multivariate testing, you continue to need to use the first version of the page to act as a control, something to compare the test results to.

- Use detailed names for your tests. You may be able to keep track of the fact that Tests 1-10 were about buttons and Tests 11-15 were about announcements, but what about when youre at Test 345? If you give your tests clear, detailed names, itll be less complicated for you to find the info and results when you want to refer back to them to plan more tests.

- The tests mean nothing if you dont learn anything from them. Your test isnt actually done ( or of any use to you ) unless youhave researched the results and applied the learnings to your site. You then use that information youhave gained as the foundation for the next test, because

- And ultimately, youre never done testing. There will never be a time when you are able to say Thats it, its perfect, Im done. Even if your website is ideal and performing at its maximum capacity at that moment, the Net is a fluid, changing thing, and you want to make sure ( thru testing ) that youre keeping up with the changes and keeping you and your internet site relevant and maintain your presence onthe internet as a Trusted Expert.

For testing purposes and the examples we give, were going to be using Googles Website Analyzer which is a part of Google Analytics. Why? Well, for one, because its free and thus accessible to everyone ; and secondly, because its a darn good testing platform free or not.

Googles Website Optimizer is free, forceful, convenient. What else could you want? It enables you to perform A / B and multivariate testing.

Why is it free?

Because Google knows that if you enhance your conversion rates, youare more likely to invest in more advertising campaigns, users are happy because theyre happier with the sites that they find through searches. Basically, everyone seems to be ecstatic and Google makes more cash.

Seems sensible when you put it that way, does not it?

There are more, paid services that you can use to further your testing, measuring, and enhancing practices. But this series is all about making the most out of what you can get for little or no money spent, by focusing on the buyer and conducting your communications strategy in a completely different way. Because of this, in regards to practical applications for testing that’ll be covered in this part of the series, well be focusing on how best to utilize the free Google tools.

The most important thing to consider about the Google Website Optimizer is that it’s a tool. It only provides the metrics, it cant tell you what changes to make. Youhave got to infer that for yourself. If you want the tests you run to be meaningful and give you the feedback you need to improve your site, then you need to make sure youre going about it the correct way, and making the best of the free tools that Google gives you.

Later on in the series, well be going through precisely what you should be doing to get you started with testing. Where you take it from there’s up to you.

Before we delve into the nuts and bolts of really running a test, there are a few things you need to recollect for any test you run, whether its 1 or 1001 :

- Always start the test with a goal in mind. Know what you would expect the outcome to be ( though you may be wrong very , very wrong ; thats what youare testing. ) In scientific tests, this is known as the conjecture. Your goal is the basis and the reason for the whole test.

- Determine what you metric of success will be before you start the test. How much better is good enough to be considered a success? 5%? 10% 50%? Only you can decide that.

- Remember not to muddy the waters. If youre testing the colour of the checkout button, dont also change the shape or the font or where it seems on the site. You could get an amazing result, but you wont know what variable was in charge of the change. Be particularly mindful of this when testing copy ; any other changes you make, even inadvertently, to the layout or the font or any other facet of the display will totally negate the authenticity of the test on the actual content.

- Remember that you always need a control. Even when youare dong multivariate testing, you continue to need to use the original version of the page to act as a control, something to compare the test results to.

- Use detailed names for your tests. You may be able to keep control of the proven fact that Tests 1-10 were about buttons and Tests 11-15 were about headlines, but what about when youre at Test 345? If you give your tests clear, detailed names, itll be less complicated for you to find the information and results when you need to refer back to them to plan more tests.

- The tests mean nothing if you dont learn anything from them. Your test isnt actually done ( or of any use to you ) unless youhave researched the results and applied the learnings to your site. You then use that information youhave gained as the base for the next test, because

- And eventually, youare never done testing. There will never be a time when you can say Thats it, its perfect, Im done. Even if your internet site is perfect and performing at its maximum capacity at that moment, the internet is a fluid, changing thing, and you need to make sure ( thru testing ) that youre keeping up with the changes and keeping you and your website applicable and maintain your presence online as a Trusted Expert.

As I mentioned in the last post in the series, How to Use the Free Tools Available to Brand Yourself as a Trusted Expert, the following step in using blogs to become a Trusted Expert is to kick off your own blog.

So, how do you decide what to blog about? Well, you could blog about anything truly, but since this series is about the best way to make your web business more successful, I might advocate that you do it about your business and your products ( niche ). Duh.

Precisely what about your business may be more difficult to decide.

Do some research ( you should already know from your reading / commenting phase ) and see what’s out there in your niche. Is there a gap that you could fill? Is there some information about your class that you think is important to get out there, and that may resonate with your Buyer Personas? Then thatis what your blog should be about.

Now here’s the list of things you’re going to need to know before you start your blog :

* Your Domain ( URL ). Is it going be an extension of your present main website, or will it have a unique name with branding and just point back to your site? Or is your blog going to be the main site? If so , you also need to decide what persona and feel you want your blog to have, which will influence the domain, tagline, and name you choose. If you’re already adding your blog to your present site, then you are somewhat limited as to choice, as it should relate back to the original site in some shape. But if your blog is the entire site, then the sky and your inspiration in the limit.
* The tagline remember that both the name and the tagline become searchable, so you want to pick them meticulously to make certain that you’re indexing under the right keywords for your business.
* The name ( seems straightforward, but you’ll potentially spend a little more time coming up with this than all of the rest ).

The reason why I’m telling you to take time to come up with these three things is this : while you can change them later, as the search engines will reindex a site and you’ll maintain your rankings, but you’ll lose something more intangible – the branding and peronsa that you had built with that name or URL.

So, while you can go back and change it thereafter, putting a little thought and effort into it before you start will save you a headache and some rebranding after.

Here are the other things you’ll need to know when starting your own blog :

Your design. There are a lot of software decisions out there with customizable interfaces. If you have already got an appear and feel that you like for your internet site, you can tweak it and use it for your blog. Or, if you’d like something a little more stand-alone, you can just use the same colors ( to connect it to your principal site ) but has a very different look and feel. You can always go back and change it later, so don’t stress out about this one as much. Design is far more of a learning experience, and plus you’ll be testing elements to know exactly what your buyers want ( and do not worry, we will get to that part later, too ).

Your voice. Blogs, more than any other kind of writing on the net, need to have a personality. The most successful blogs have their own unique voice that is so strong that you can virtually imagine the person speaking when you’re reading it. And though Ihave done posts on good grammar before, you want to walk a fine line yes, use good grammar and spelling whenever possible, but you may take liberties if it suits your voice. I have used non-good grammar thingies ( see ) where it’s suitable. But if you keep to good grammar in each other way, itis going to be clear that you are doing otherwise for color and humor instead of that you don’t know any better.

Above all, bear in mind that your blog is meant to be about you and your business. Don’t try to be something that you’re not a gigantic part about being a Trusted Expert is the fact that you are authentic.

last point on this topic… Just start a blog. I’m serious here and I highly recommend everybody have a blog that is on asubject they are obsessed about and especially if they need to be seen as knowledgeable in that niche.

So, how does one decide what to blog about? Well, you might blog about anything truly, but since this series is about the way to make your online business more successful, I’d counsel that you do it about your business and your products ( niche ). Duh.

Here are the other things youwill have to know when starting up your own blog :

Your design. There are a large amount of software choices out there with customizable interfaces. If you have already got afeel and look that you like for your internet site, you can tweak it and use it for your blog. Or, if you would like something a bit more stand-alone, you can just use the same colours ( to connect it to your main site ) but has a very different feel and appear. You can always go back and change it later, so don’t stress out about this one as much. Design is much more of a learning experience, and plus you’ll be testing elements to grasp exactly what your buyers want ( and don’t worry, we will get to that part later, too ).

Your voice. Blogs, more than any other kind of writing on the net, need to have a personality. The most successful blogs have their own unique voice that’s so robust that you can almost imagine the person speaking when you’re reading it.
